  • instrument identification
  • ear training
  • audio annotation
  • music performance
  • audio engineering

What you'll do

This is a short, focused listening job. You hear brief audio clips and label two things for each: the instrument family (strings, brass, woodwind, percussion, keyboard and so on) and the specific instrument. Provided audio references guide your decisions, and you follow annotation guidelines so your labels stay consistent with everyone else's. The labelled clips help evaluate and improve AI-generated audio data.

Expect repetition: the ad itself says you should be comfortable with focused, repetitive listening and independent remote work.

Who fits

  • A bachelor's degree in music or a related field
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in music performance, production, audio engineering or similar
  • A trained ear that recognises instruments by sound
  • Strong English communication skills
  • Bonus: transcription, remixing, music information retrieval or AI/data annotation experience

What it pays

The ad's project snapshot says you can earn up to about $150–160 with a full push across both days, paid in USD. That is a project total for a two-day window, not an hourly rate, and "up to" means it depends on how much you finish. Hours are flexible within the window.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • A stated pay ceiling, which Turing rarely publishes
  • A short commitment: a two-day window and a roughly 15-minute qualifying test before onboarding
  • Strong performers may get a possible extension

Less good:

  • It is a one-off burst, so treat it as extra income rather than steady work
  • The $150–160 figure only applies if you work hard across both days
  • Repetitive listening can be tiring
  • The degree and 3-year experience bar rules out hobbyists
