How it works

Snorkel describes its Expert Community as a network of professionals and academics who shape real AI projects. The steps it gives are: apply, complete screenings or an assessment, set up payment, and join projects. Projects typically require an advanced degree in a relevant field, residence in a region approved for that project, and willingness to work as an independent contractor. Snorkel says approved experts can start contributing the same day they apply.

Task types include writing domain-specific questions that challenge frontier models, reviewing other contributors' data for accuracy, and comparing model outputs against criteria. Most work is asynchronous with instructions and rubrics provided, and contributors choose when and how much to work.

Good:

• Snorkel says top experts earn "$3,000+ per week," a claim by the company about its best contributors rather than a typical rate

Less good:

• Pay is set per project by expertise and complexity, and Snorkel publishes no typical hourly or per-task rate
• Every contribution goes through quality review, and only accepted work is paid
• Snorkel engages contributors only in select locations for legal, tax and compliance reasons, and does not list them; eligibility is confirmed during application
• Snorkel aims to pay within two weeks of acceptance but says timelines may vary
