Applying to several AI training platforms at once: a practical strategy
How-to · 1 week ago
No AI training platform promises work after acceptance, so applying to several at once is the sensible default. How to shortlist, reuse one CV and one round of preparation, sequence the unpaid steps, and avoid the rules that catch people working several platforms.
Why several, and why at once
The best strategy for applying to multiple AI training platforms starts from one fact every platform states in its own words: acceptance is not work. micro1 says certification "does not guarantee immediate placement"; Handshake AI says there is "no fixed timeline" for a first invitation; DataAnnotation says work depends on demand for your skills. None publishes an acceptance rate or a typical wait. Applying in parallel rather than one after another means the waits overlap instead of adding up.
1. Shortlist by eligibility
Start with the gates you cannot change. Outlier requires at least an associate degree. micro1 cannot hire residents of 20 listed countries and regions. Handshake AI's eligibility page asks for an SSN or ITIN and a US work authorization it can support. The full side-by-side is in Mercor, micro1, Outlier, Alignerr and Handshake AI compared.
Then look at where the work is. Of the 699 listings on this site on 29 September 2026, 366 are micro1, 302 are Mercor, 28 are Invisible Technologies and 3 are Alignerr. Browse all open roles and keep two or three platforms where you clear the bar.
2. Build one CV and one profile story
Mercor, Alignerr and Outlier all take a CV and turn it into a profile, so one well-written CV serves all three. Keep your job titles, dates and credentials identical everywhere: Mercor's background check can verify education, employment history and licences, and a mismatch between platforms is the kind of thing that looks bad. The AI training resume guide covers the content.
3. Reuse preparation where it transfers
micro1's Zara interview also appears on some Alignerr jobs, according to Alignerr's process page, and Mercor reuses many assessments across listings. Prepare once, properly: five things that decide an AI interview and how to pass AI training assessments.
4. Sequence the unpaid steps
Do the free checks for every platform first, then the one-attempt assessments, one per day at most, when you are fresh. How to get started sets out the order within a platform.
5. Know the rules that bite multi-platform workers
- Confidentiality does not travel. Outlier's Community Guidelines ban sharing project material, "including sharing information across Platforms". Never reuse a prompt or rubric from one platform on another.
- One account per platform. Outlier's rules cover Scale AI's other platforms too, including Remotasks, so do not open a second account there.
- No overlapping hours. Mercor reviews time logged "while engaged in unrelated activities" on tracked projects. Work on one platform at a time.
6. Keep a tracker
A simple table does it: platform, date applied, assessment status, ID verified, payment rail set up, last task received. When one queue goes quiet, you can see at a glance where to put the next hour.

Questions
- How many AI training platforms should I apply to?
- Two or three is a practical number: enough that one empty queue does not leave you idle, few enough to keep each profile current. No platform publishes acceptance rates or time to first task, so a single application leaves you dependent on one queue.
- Is it allowed to work on several platforms at once?
- You work as an independent contractor on these platforms. Outlier's FAQ says you can combine it with other part-time or full-time work. What the rules do forbid is sharing one platform's confidential material elsewhere, and on Mercor's tracked projects, logging time while doing unrelated work.
- Can one preparation cover several platforms?
- Partly. micro1 uses the Zara AI interview, and Alignerr states some of its jobs also require a Zara interview. Mercor states many of its assessments are reused across listings, so one pass can qualify you for several roles.
