What you'll do
You work through construction planning, document review, field problem solving and technical evaluation across several project types. The concrete part of the ad is the review of construction drawings, specifications and technical documents, plus writing down your reasoning and technical judgments clearly enough that someone else could reproduce them.
Work is assigned project by project, asynchronously. The ad says the current work runs over the next 2 to 3 weeks, at an expected 10 to 20 hours a week on the projects you accept.
Who fits
- 1 to 3 years as a construction engineer, project engineer, field engineer or similar, in a full-time or equivalent role
- Working knowledge of construction documents, drawings and specifications
- Ability to assess and resolve technical questions on active projects without hand-holding
- Grounding in sequencing, scheduling, materials and building codes
- A bachelor's degree or higher in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
Preferred: experience across commercial, residential, industrial or infrastructure work; familiarity with standards such as IBC, ACI, AISC, ASCE or OSHA; exposure to tools like Procore, Bluebeam or Primavera P6; and a mix of office and field roles. A contractor licence (general or trade) is an optional item on the application form.
What it pays
The board shows $75/hr and the ad gives no other range. The ad calls the pay "exceptional" but does not publish payment terms or how hours are tracked; see the company page for how AfterQuery pays.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Fully remote, part-time and built to fit around a current job
- Explicitly early-career friendly: the bar is 1 to 3 years
- Practical, document-based work rather than abstract puzzles
Less good:
- Short, project-based engagement of 2 to 3 weeks with no stated continuation
- 10 to 20 hours a week is a real commitment alongside a day job
- The ad does not describe the hiring process
