CAD Data Generation & Validation Specialist (FreeCAD)
Rex.Zone: pay and who it accepts · Posted
What you'll do
Where the other Rex.Zone CAD roles review or explain designs, this one produces them: you build a library of mechanical parts, assemblies and features in FreeCAD for use in AI training datasets. You edit and check parametric models for geometric precision, apply GD&T so they match real-world design standards, review CAD data for quality, resolve inconsistencies and keep the engineering documentation. Repetitive modelling steps can be scripted where that helps.
You are expected to act on feedback and revision requests promptly, and to join calibration and review sessions. The work is remote; the ad does not state weekly hours.
Who fits
- 2+ years in mechanical design, CAD modelling, manufacturing or industrial engineering
- Strong parametric modelling experience in FreeCAD or equivalent software
- Skill in CAD validation and in applying GD&T to manufacturing scenarios
- Clear written English
- Preferred: Python scripting for CAD automation, FreeCAD workbench and assembly experience, and contributions to open-source CAD projects
What it pays
Rex.Zone's listing states USD $40–100 per hour, "adjusted by country of residence". The ad does not say how the adjustment works, so the top of the range may not apply where you live. The listing gives no payment method or payout schedule; the Rex.Zone company page covers what is known. The $40 floor matches the Mechanical CAD Expert role, while the $100 ceiling sits between that role ($80) and the CAD Expert role ($150).
Worth knowing
Good:
- FreeCAD is free and open source, so you can practise on the same tool without a licence
- Python scripting is a stated bonus, which rewards people who automate their modelling
- A stated 2-year minimum, lower than the degree-plus-years bar on the evaluation roles
Less good:
- Hands-on model building may be slower than review work, and the ad does not say whether pay is per hour logged or per delivered model
- Export-controlled, military or defence-related data and employer-owned designs cannot be submitted
- Rex.Zone may ask for evidence of ownership or licence and can reject or remove submissions
- Pay is adjusted by country of residence, method unpublished
