What you'll do
A frontier AI lab trains and tests its models on cloud-architecture tasks, and it needs AWS practitioners to check those tasks are right. You review multi-service serverless designs and the infrastructure-as-code that deploys them, and you judge whether the pieces actually fit together.
The failure classes you are looking for are the ones that pass a synth but break in production:
- An event-driven flow whose ordering or delivery assumptions do not hold
- IAM policies and permission boundaries that are too broad, or too narrow to work
- Retry and failure semantics (dead-letter queues, idempotency, Step Functions error handling) that are missing or wrong
- IaC that does not faithfully express the intended architecture
- Tasks that pass under LocalStack but would behave differently on real AWS
You write rubric-based feedback on each.
Who fits
Basic qualifications:
- 3+ years building multi-service AWS serverless applications: Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB and Streams, S3, EventBridge, SNS and SQS, Step Functions
- Strong experience with AWS CDK, CloudFormation or SAM
- The ability to assess event-driven correctness, IAM boundaries and failure and retry semantics
- Familiarity with how local emulation such as LocalStack differs from real AWS
Preferred: AWS Solutions Architect or Developer certification, serverless observability and cost-optimisation experience, and prior code review or task grading.
The LocalStack point suggests the tasks are validated in emulation, so part of the job is knowing where emulation behaves differently from real AWS.
What it pays
$70–90 per hour, weekly via Stripe or Wise. H-1B and STEM OPT candidates cannot be supported. Hours and duration are not published.
It is one of several same-rate auditor listings; platform engineers may also want the ML Challenge Task Auditor or SWE-Bench tracks if their background spans those.
Worth knowing
Good:
- A precise fit for serverless specialists, a group few AI-training listings target
- Certifications are a plus but not required
- Asynchronous, remote
Less good:
- US-only, with the visa exclusion
- Pure AWS focus; Azure and GCP experience does not substitute
- No hours or duration published
- Independent contractor; projects can be extended, shortened or ended early
