What you'll do

Denmark has a large pharmaceutical and biotech sector, so there are plenty of Danish PhDs in the life sciences. Most of them work in English day to day. This role asks for the less common thing: the ability to write and judge serious science in Danish, so that an AI model's safety behaviour can be checked in a language where it has seen far less training data.

In practice you will:

  • Write expert-level prompts in Danish on specialised scientific topics
  • Evaluate and annotate model responses for scientific accuracy, helpfulness and appropriate handling of sensitive content
  • Classify prompts and conversations using structured guidelines

The topics sit in chemical, biological, and radiological and nuclear science, where much legitimate knowledge is also dual-use. The skill being paid for is judgment: recognising when a question is ordinary research or teaching and when it reaches for dangerous capability, then checking the model responds accordingly. The work tests the model's limits; it does not ask you to produce harmful content.

Mercor trains you on the workflow, and no AI background is required.

Who qualifies

  • A PhD in chemistry, biology or a closely related field, ongoing or completed
  • The range to write across chemical, biological, or radiological and nuclear subject areas
  • Native or near-native Danish and business-level written English
  • Deep familiarity with modern laboratory and computational methods in your subfield
  • Sound judgment about scientific safety and dual-use information

Preferred, per the ad: a clearly defined specialism (synthesis, molecular biology, microbiology, virology, genetics and similar) rather than broad coverage; radiological and nuclear expertise coming from chemistry (radiochemistry, nuclear chemistry, energetic materials, radiation physics); research or coursework in chemical security, biosafety or hazardous-materials handling; and experience reviewing, grading or red-teaming technical content.

Living in Denmark or elsewhere in Western Europe is preferred but not required.

What it pays

$61–65 per hour, as published by Mercor. That is $13 more than the Danish generalist role ($48–52) and level with the Finnish and Belgian Dutch STEM versions. Only the Norwegian, Japanese and Korean STEM roles in this series pay more.

Payments are weekly via Stripe or Wise, based on services rendered.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • High hourly rate for flexible, fully remote part-time work
  • PhD students qualify, not only graduates
  • Draws on real subject expertise rather than routine labelling
  • Immediate start

Less good:

  • Unlike most listings in this series, it showed no hire count when we checked, so there is no signal of how quickly it is filling
  • Hazardous-science material is the core of the work
  • Hours, duration and the end client are not stated; projects can be extended, shortened or ended early
  • Independent contractor with no benefits
  • H-1B and STEM OPT candidates excluded
