What you'll do
Korean gives a single request many forms: speech levels from formal to intimate, heavy use of internet slang and abbreviations, and deliberate misspellings or spacing tricks that Korean online communities use to get past filters. Native speakers recognise all of these instantly; a model trained mainly on English does not. This role pays you to put that knowledge to work.
The ad describes three tasks:
- Writing expert-level prompts in Korean across a range of sensitive subject areas
- Applying structured guidelines to classify prompts and conversations
- Flagging adversarial phrasings and escalation patterns, and documenting your reasoning
Concretely, you write the requests a model should refuse or handle carefully, and mark where a conversation is being walked step by step towards something it should not produce. The sensitive topics are not named in the ad, so expect some difficult reading and writing.
Mercor trains you on the workflow; no AI background is needed.
Who fits
- Native or near-native Korean plus business-level written English
- A bachelor's degree, completed or in progress
- Strong written reasoning and attention to detail
- Sound judgment around sensitive and dual-use information
A plus: experience reviewing, grading or red-teaming written or technical content, or a background in trust and safety, content moderation, policy evaluation or adversarial testing. Korean platform moderation experience is directly relevant.
South Korea or the wider East Asia region is preferred; applicants elsewhere are welcome.
What it pays
$48–52 per hour, Mercor's published figure, the same as the Japanese, German, French and Nordic generalist versions apart from Norwegian ($58–62). The Korean STEM (PhD) version pays $63–67 for chemists and biologists.
Payments are weekly via Stripe or Wise, based on services rendered.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Entry-level bar; a degree in progress qualifies
- No AI experience required, training included
- Remote on your own schedule, immediate start
- 7 hires this month when we checked
Less good:
- Sensitive by design, topics undisclosed
- No stated weekly hours or project length; projects can be extended, shortened or ended early
- Independent contractor, no benefits; overseas contractor income has its own tax reporting in Korea
- H-1B and STEM OPT candidates excluded
