What you'll do

This is the busiest of Mercor's three enterprise engineering evaluation listings: 350 hires this month when we read it. The job is to write evaluation tasks that test whether an AI system handles electrical engineering the way a senior Fortune 500 engineer would, then supply the reference answer and the rubric that grades it.

Scope in the ad:

  • Areas: power systems and grid infrastructure, semiconductor and PCB design, embedded systems and firmware, signal processing, and control systems
  • Tools the scenarios reference: Altium Designer, Cadence, MATLAB/Simulink, SPICE simulators, and enterprise PLM or EDA systems
  • Methods: circuit analysis and simulation, EMC/EMI compliance, control theory, and reliability and failure mode analysis
  • Standards tracks: US (NEC / NFPA 70, NESC, IEEE) or International (IEC); either qualifies you

Because the field is this wide, expect the scenarios you write to lean on your own specialism. A power engineer and a PCB designer will produce very different worlds; the ad's rubric requirement (separating authentic judgment from textbook recall) is what they share.

Who fits

  • 5+ years as an electrical engineer or engineering lead at a Fortune 500 or major technology, industrial or energy company (examples named: Intel, Texas Instruments, GE, Siemens, Tesla, ABB, Schneider Electric)
  • Direct ownership of large circuit designs, power systems or certification programmes
  • Working knowledge of certification regimes (NEC / NFPA 70, IEEE, UL, FCC, IEC) and design governance
  • PE or equivalent and prior rubric or curriculum writing are a plus

What it pays

$70–80 per hour, the same band as the Mechanical and Civil expert listings. Payments are weekly on Stripe or Wise.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • 350 hired this month: the most active of the three sister listings
  • IEC-track engineers outside the US are explicitly welcome
  • Remote and self-scheduled, weekly pay

Less good:

  • Large-employer experience is part of the ideal profile
  • No hours or duration published
  • Projects can be extended, shortened or ended early
  • H-1B and STEM OPT holders are excluded
  • Contractor status, no benefits
