What you'll do
Mercor is recruiting senior FP&A leaders to build evaluation tasks for AI systems working in corporate planning. You design the situation, produce what a good FP&A team would hand the CFO, and write the rubric that grades a model's attempt.
Scenario material spans the full planning calendar: budget and forecast cycles, variance analysis and business partnering, capital budgeting and investment cases, and financial modeling. Methodologies named in the ad are driver-based forecasting, variance analysis, and scenario and sensitivity modeling. The reference outputs are the artifacts you already produce: financial models, forecast decks, variance reports and business cases.
Like its accounting sibling, the role has two tracks: a US track built on US GAAP-based reporting and US corporate finance conventions, and an International track built on IFRS-based reporting. Experts qualified in either or both are invited.
Tools referenced include Anaplan, Adaptive Insights and Planful for planning, Tableau and Power BI for BI, and enterprise ERPs. You do not need all of them, but the scenarios assume you know how a large company's planning stack fits together.
The rubric is where this differs from a normal modelling test. The ad wants criteria that separate authentic FP&A judgment from spreadsheet-template work, so expect to spell out why a forecast driver is wrong, not just that a cell is.
Who fits
- 5+ years as an FP&A leader, Director of FP&A or CFO at a major company
- Direct ownership of budgeting cycles, forecasting models or capital allocation decisions
- Fluency with FP&A tooling and financial modelling best practice
- A CFA, MBA or CPA is a plus, not a requirement; so is earlier rubric or training authorship
No residence restriction is published.
What it pays
$80–90 per hour, paid weekly on Stripe or Wise. That is $10 above the Accounting Expert listing built on the same template, for a comparable 5-year bar.
Mercor showed 4 hires on this listing this month, far fewer than the accounting sibling. Read that as a smaller or newer project, not necessarily a harder one.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Leadership experience is the qualification; credentials are optional
- US GAAP and IFRS-based tracks both welcome
- Rubric authoring rewards the business-partnering judgment most FP&A tests ignore
- Remote and self-scheduled
Less good:
- Director or CFO-level bar for a rate many FP&A leaders will find modest
- Low hiring volume this month suggests limited task supply
- No weekly hours or project length stated
- H-1B and STEM OPT holders are excluded; contractor terms with no guaranteed duration
