What you'll do

Spanish is spoken across more than twenty countries, and a model that writes fluent Madrid Spanish can still sound wrong to a reader in Buenos Aires or Mexico City. That is why the ad asks specifically for an understanding of regional variation and context-appropriate usage, alongside the core evaluation work.

What you do, per the ad:

  • Evaluate LLM-generated Spanish across translation, summarization, dialogue and grammar correction
  • Edit, refine or rewrite it to meet linguistic and cultural standards
  • Annotate text for grammatical, syntactic and semantic features
  • Identify errors and language gaps, and work with AI researchers to improve the model
  • Provide detailed linguistic feedback to steer training

Compared with the German and English versions, this one is framed around translation and linguistics rather than literature, so it suits translators as much as editors.

Who fits

  • Native or near-native Spanish with excellent grammar, syntax and style
  • Professional experience in translation, editing, linguistic annotation or NLP data work in Spanish
  • Strong grasp of regional variation and usage
  • An eye for subtle errors and unnatural phrasing
  • Clear communication and experience on distributed remote teams

Interest in AI is preferred but not required.

What it pays

$50 per hour, matching the rest of this language family and a little below the $60–65 Mercor pays Spanish Tutors on a separate, shorter project. No weekly hours or duration are stated. Payments are weekly on Stripe or Wise; Mercor cannot support H-1B or STEM OPT candidates.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • Translation experience qualifies directly
  • Regional knowledge is an asset
  • No country restriction stated

Less good:

  • No hours, volume or duration published
  • The ad does not say which regional variety the project targets, if any
  • Independent contractor; projects can be extended, shortened or ended early
