Skills
  • audio transcription
  • language proficiency
  • attention to detail
  • annotation
  • proofreading

What you'll do

The job is accurate transcription of audio that mixes Spanish and English, followed by the extra layer that makes it training data: metadata and contextual notes attached to each audio file. You then review, edit and proofread for clarity, consistency and linguistic accuracy before delivery.

Two details set this ad apart from micro1's other Language Expert listings. It accepts near-native Spanish, not only native speakers, which opens the door to heritage speakers and long-term residents with strong ears. And it explicitly asks for feedback on the workflow itself: tool usability, process friction and the linguistic problems you hit along the way. The guidelines are expected to evolve, so adaptability is part of the brief.

Spanish audio spans a lot of ground (Caribbean aspiration of final s, Rioplatense sh for ll, Mexican and Peninsular vocabulary), and the ad does not say which varieties are in scope. Ask if you are confident in only some of them.

Who fits

  • Native or near-native Spanish with strong listening and reading comprehension
  • Professional audio transcription experience where accuracy mattered
  • Familiarity with industry-standard transcription platforms
  • Clear written and verbal communication, including documenting problems and clarifying ambiguity
  • The ability to juggle several assignments and adapt when specifications change

Previous AI training, annotation or language-resource work is a plus. All of these are preferred rather than required.

What it pays

$20–36/hour, micro1's published band, the same as its Mandarin and Portuguese Language Expert listings. The ceiling is 1.8x the floor, and the ad does not explain placement or whether pay is per hour worked or per audio hour. No payment schedule is published.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • Near-native Spanish accepted, which widens the pool beyond native speakers
  • Your input on tools and process is explicitly wanted
  • Posted recently, with 15 openings
  • No AI experience needed, and no country restriction stated

Less good:

  • A $20 floor for professional transcription
  • The Spanish varieties in the audio are not specified
  • "Multiple concurrent assignments" and evolving specifications can mean shifting priorities
  • No weekly hours, project length or volume are stated
  • Contractor engagement: no benefits, your own tax to manage
  • The customer is not named
