What you'll do
You teach real Spanish lessons, and they are recorded. A language-learning platform, working through Mercor, wants a set of natural tutoring conversations between experienced tutors and native English speakers at different levels. The quality of the recording depends mostly on you: keeping the learner talking, adjusting to their level, and filling the session with substance.
What the ad asks for in each session:
- Lead a one-on-one lesson and adapt it to the learner's level and the assigned topic
- Draw out real back-and-forth conversation rather than lecturing
- Follow the provided lesson structure and project instructions
- Keep the session focused, without long silences or off-topic drift
- Run at least 20 minutes; sessions generally last 20 to 30
Your learners are the people on the companion Spanish Learner listing, who have at least a year of study and range from basic to intermediate.
Who fits
- Fluent Spanish speaker with strong spoken communication
- Bachelor's degree or higher
- At least three years of Spanish teaching or tutoring
- Experience teaching native English speakers at different levels
- Flexible teaching style, punctual, and comfortable being recorded
Tutors from Spain, Mexico and other Spanish-speaking regions are all encouraged, so regional accents are welcome.
What it pays
$60–65 per hour, a narrow band and well above typical rates on online tutoring marketplaces. Learners on the same project are paid $30–37. Payments are weekly on Stripe or Wise; Mercor cannot support H-1B or STEM OPT candidates.
Commitment
Roughly three weeks at about seven hours a week, in scheduled one-on-one sessions.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Strong hourly rate for tutoring you already know how to do
- Lesson structure provided, so little preparation
- Any Spanish-speaking regional background welcome; no country restriction stated
Less good:
- Short project, about three weeks
- Degree and three years' teaching are firm requirements
- Sessions are recorded for the project's use
- Independent contractor; projects can be extended, shortened or ended early
