What you'll do
Read about four hours of French scripts (conversational, narrative, instructional) so a Mercor client, described as a leading AI research lab, can create a synthetic version of your voice for its internal "CX AI Agent". Expect several takes of some lines with different emotion and emphasis. A second session of similar length may follow; it is not promised.
Two things set this variant apart. It is the only one in Mercor's CX voice cloning family with no location requirement: the ad says outright that where you live does not matter. And the accent bar is strict in a different direction: standard, neutral French with no strong regional accent and no foreign-language influence. Native-level non-natives are allowed in principle, but "no foreign-language influence" is exactly where a near-native speaker tends to be caught, so be realistic about how you sound on tape.
Who fits
- Native or native-level French speaker with a standard, neutral accent
- No strong regional accent and no audible influence from another language
- Located anywhere
- A clear, expressive voice; acting, narration or broadcast work helps but is not required
- A near-professional home setup: quality microphone, pop filter, quiet room
- Precise script reading with natural delivery
- One session of about four hours, maybe another later
Preferred: TTS, audiobook, IVR or AI voice dataset experience, audio editing in Audacity, Adobe Audition or Reaper, and range across conversational, corporate, energetic and calm reads.
French dubbing actors, newsreaders and e-learning narrators are the natural fit; the neutral "français standard" of national broadcasting is what the brief describes.
What it pays
$50–100 per hour, roughly $200 to $400 for the stated session, paid weekly via Stripe or Wise in US dollars. That is double the ceiling of the Canadian French variant, which pays a flat $50 and requires Canadian residency, so a Canadian speaker who can deliver standard French may want this one instead.
What you are licensing
Consent for the client to clone your voice. The ad's protection is a usage limit: recordings go only to the client's internal CX AI agent and will not be sold, licensed or reused for any other product, dataset or purpose. It does not name the client, set a duration, describe any way to withdraw consent, or mention payment for continued use of the clone. If you are an EU resident, it is reasonable to ask how your voice data will be handled under GDPR; the ad does not say.
Worth knowing
Good:
- No location requirement at all
- Native-level speakers can apply, not only natives
- Newcomers welcome if voice and setup are good
- Short, defined commitment
- Written limit on reuse of the recordings
Less good:
- Your voice may be cloned, and the ad mentions no payment for ongoing use
- The ad says little about how the voice will be used: no client name, no time limit, no withdrawal right
- Strict neutrality bar: regional or foreign accent traces rule you out
- About $200–400 per session, with no guarantee of a second
- Paid in USD, so conversion costs apply for most applicants
- Independent contractor; projects can be extended, shortened or ended early
- H-1B and STEM OPT holders are excluded
