What you'll do
This is commercial contracting as you already practise it. You review and redline agreements (MSAs, NDAs, DPAs and similar) against established playbooks and policy positions, identify the issues in a draft, and decide both the company position and the acceptable fallback. The ad's own framing is that the work "draws directly on day-to-day commercial contracting practice: reviewing agreements, marking up drafts, and applying company policy positions the way in-house counsel would."
What turns this into AI training is the written rationale. Every redline comes with a clear, reasoned explanation of why you made it. That explanation is the training signal, so a markup without articulated reasoning is worth little here even if the markup is right.
You also work with the project team on consistency of standards and interpretations, which matters on a redlining project: two attorneys applying the same playbook differently is exactly the noise the exercise is trying to remove.
What you need
- A JD from an accredited law school and active bar admission in a US jurisdiction
- At least four years in transactional practice, at a law firm or in-house, focused on contract drafting, review and negotiation
- Deep familiarity with the provisions that actually get negotiated: limitation of liability, indemnification, confidentiality, data protection
- The ability to synthesise complex legal concepts into clear, actionable written analysis
- Demonstrated judgement and accuracy in contract review and interpretation
- Comfort working independently in a remote, deadline-driven environment
Bar admission here is a credential rather than a location: no residency requirement is stated, so a US-qualified attorney living abroad appears eligible. The country field on this page is left open rather than inventing a residency rule. Confirm it before relying on it.
Nice to have
- Technology transactions expertise, listed as "a strong plus" rather than a requirement
"Confidential" is all the ad will say
The engagement is described as "a confidential project at the intersection of law and AI", and the qualifications return to the confidential framing. No customer, no product, and no project duration is named.
That is common for this kind of work. It does mean you are applying your professional judgement to material whose destination you cannot evaluate, which weighs more for a lawyer than for most contractors, so decide on it deliberately.
What it pays
$90–110/hour. A $20 band is unusually tight, and a genuine point in its favour: the number you see is close to the number you get.
What the listing does not include is a compensation-structure section. It states no per-task rate, no submission minimum, and nothing about whether the hourly figure buys your time or is an equivalent computed some other way. Ask before you accept.
Worth knowing
Good:
- A $20 band, tight enough that the published rate is close to the real one
- Firm-side or in-house practice both count
- Technology transactions is a plus here, not a gate
- 50 openings is a substantial intake
- The work is genuinely within practice: playbook application, fallback positions, reasoned markups
- No firm-tier or law-school-ranking filter
Less good:
- No compensation structure stated anywhere on the listing
- The project is confidential: no customer, no product, no duration
- "Deadline-driven" is stated without any indication of what the deadlines are or how much volume is expected
- Four years plus a bar admission is a higher bar than the rate suggests
- Contractor engagement: no benefits, no notice period, your own tax to manage
- No screening process or start timeline described
- The output trains systems that do contract review, which is worth weighing if you have a view on where that leads for junior transactional roles
About this listing
Posted by micro1 on its own jobs portal, confirmed open on 7 September 2026. The $90–110/hour band, the four-year requirement, the bar admission requirement and the scope of work are its own published text for this listing.
US bar admission is required but no residency rule is stated, so eligibility on this page is left open rather than filled with an assumption. We could not verify the pay structure, the expected volume, the project duration, or the customer; none is stated. Screening and payment run at the platform level. See micro1.
