What you'll do

Marathi has more than 80 million speakers, mostly in Maharashtra, and very little of the mental health material AI models learn from is written in it. This role is micro1's attempt to fix that for one customer. You develop and evaluate complex psychiatric case studies set in realistic Marathi-speaking contexts, and you annotate psychological assessments to reflect how psychiatry is actually practised with Marathi-speaking patients.

The useful knowledge here is the kind a clinician in Pune, Nashik or a district hospital picks up without noticing: symptoms presented as weakness, pain or sleeplessness rather than mood, families who expect to be in the room, a visit to a temple, dargah or faith healer before a psychiatrist is consulted, and the stigma that shapes what a patient will say in front of relatives. Good case studies carry those details; translated English vignettes do not.

The rest of the scope: reviewing and critiquing sensitive case content with confidentiality and ethics in mind, helping build frameworks for passing psychiatric information accurately between Marathi and English, giving feedback on how AI systems evaluate mental health content, and sharing findings with the project's AI teams. All written analyses are produced in both languages.

Who fits

micro1 lists these as "preferred qualifications", but a medical route into psychiatry is what the title implies.

  • A medical degree (MD, MBBS or equivalent), a completed psychiatry residency and a valid medical licence
  • Native Marathi and advanced English, written and spoken
  • Extensive experience of psychiatric assessment, treatment planning and case documentation in Marathi clinical settings
  • Cultural sensitivity and ethical reasoning in complex mental health cases
  • A background in developing teaching materials or case studies for education or research
  • Interdisciplinary project experience, ideally in technology, research or digital health
  • Familiarity with both Western and Marathi psychiatric frameworks

No AI experience is needed. In Indian terms, the ad describes an MBBS followed by an MD, DNB or DPM in psychiatry; it does not say which country's licence counts. Two practical points. Many psychiatrists in Mumbai consult as much in Hindi or English as in Marathi, so the "Marathi clinical settings" line favours people who have actually worked in Marathi day to day. And written analysis in Marathi means typing comfortably in Devanagari, which clinicians used to writing notes in English may need to practise.

How it compares

The sister listing, Bilingual Marathi Psychologist (PhD), pays the same $100–200/hour to PhD psychologists and centres on evaluating AI output and keeping assessments faithful between Marathi and English. This one asks for a medical degree and puts more weight on case construction, teaching material and clinical annotation. Marathi is also one of the 16 languages on micro1's broader Bilingual Mental Health Expert listing, which pays the same band and takes a psychology PhD or a psychiatry MD. Clinicians who work in Gujarati as well, as plenty in Mumbai do, can look at the separate Bilingual Gujarati Psychiatrist listing.

What it pays

$100–200/hour, identical to the band for PhD psychologists, so the medical training earns no premium here. The ad does not explain placement within the band, the pay structure, weekly hours or project length. At the lower end the rate is still well above what most psychiatric work in India pays per hour, which matters if you are weighing it against clinic time.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • 70 openings, posted as new on 29 September 2026
  • Marathi clinical experience is rarely asked for at this level on AI training boards
  • Case-building work suits psychiatrists who teach postgraduates or write exam material
  • Remote, with no country restriction on the ad

Less good:

  • The same band as PhD psychologists despite the longer training path
  • A 2x spread with no published basis for placement
  • No hours, duration, pay structure or start date stated
  • Constructing and critiquing difficult psychiatric cases can be draining
  • Contractor engagement: no benefits, your own tax to manage
