- Skills
- fusion 360 cam
- multi-axis programming
- toolpath strategy
- post-processor configuration
- cnc machining
What you'll do
Two kinds of output, both aimed at teaching a model how a good CAM programmer thinks.
Programming means building toolpaths in Autodesk Fusion 360 for 3, 4 and 5-axis milling and turning, across metals and plastics, tuned to material, tolerance and machine. You simulate and verify them to catch collisions, gouges and wasted cycle time, and you configure and document post-processors for machines such as Haas and Makera. Setup sheets, tool lists and strategy notes go with each job.
Teaching means writing walkthroughs and guidance on CAM technique and best practice. This is the part that marks it out from a shop-floor role: your reasoning, written down, is the training material.
You also fold first-article results and inspection reports back into revised programs.
Who fits
- Five or more years of hands-on CAM programming, with strong Fusion 360
- A portfolio or samples showing multi-axis work and toolpath strategy
- GD&T, DFM and post-processor configuration
- Experience across aluminium, stainless, titanium and plastics
- Clear written English
- Ideally, a history of teaching CAM: courses, tutorials, mentoring or online content
Prepare the portfolio before applying; the ad lists it as a qualification.
What it pays
$80–120/hour, micro1's published band, among the stronger rates in its manufacturing listings (the FreeCAD CAD data role pays $40–100). No pay mechanism, hours or duration are stated.
Worth knowing
Good:
- A good remote rate for a skill usually tied to a shop floor
- Teaching and content experience count in your favour
- Narrow 1.5x spread
Less good:
- Fusion 360 specifically; strong Mastercam or NX users may be screened out
- Five-year bar plus a portfolio
- Only 10 openings
- No hours, duration or pay mechanism published
- Contractor engagement: no benefits, no notice period, your own tax to manage
