What you'll do
This is production BIM work whose output trains AI engineering tools. You create and refine complete civil and structural drawing sets (plans, elevations, sections, schedules), build the BIM models behind them, and make sure the data survives export.
- Authoring drawing sets and BIM models in Revit or ArchiCAD, including complex or multi-building projects
- Designing to code families such as Eurocode, ACI, ASCE, IS and BS
- Exporting IFC (2x3 or IFC4) and validating geometry, classification and mapping
- Writing up design decisions and rationale clearly
- Flagging constructability issues and suggesting improvements
- Giving feedback on how well BIM tools and data workflows work
The IFC validation piece matters: an AI system trained on your models only sees what survives the export, so broken mappings mean broken training data.
Who fits
- A bachelor's in civil or structural engineering or architecture; master's preferred
- At least five years of post-degree practice authoring complete drawing sets and leading model development, not just markups
- At least three years of daily expert BIM authoring in Revit, ArchiCAD or BlenderBIM, including IFC export and validation
- Multidisciplinary coordination on complex projects
- Working code literacy in at least one of the named standards
- Fluent written and spoken English
Nice to have: PE, CEng or Chartered status; ifcopenshell or Python scripting; Navisworks or Solibri; ETABS, SAP2000, Robot or Tekla; custom BIM families; earlier AI annotation work.
What it pays
$30–50/hour, micro1's published band. That is low for the experience asked: the bar is five years' practice plus three years of daily BIM, yet micro1's Civil Engineer task-writing listing offers $50–100. International engineers in lower-cost markets will find it more attractive than US-based ones. No pay mechanism, hours or duration are stated.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Accepts several code families, so it is open to engineers outside the US
- Remote BIM work using tools you already know
- Recently posted, marked new
Less good:
- Low pay for a demanding experience bar
- Markup-only or review-only experience explicitly does not count
- Only 10 openings
- No hours, duration or pay mechanism published
- Contractor engagement: no benefits, no notice period, your own tax to manage
