What you'll do

This listing is closer to data annotation than most legal AI roles, and it says so. You analyse complex scenarios in mergers and acquisitions, private equity and capital markets to build "high-fidelity data sets", and you draft, review and annotate legal documents so annotation tasks carry the right legal context.

On the litigation side, you take commercial litigation cases and distil the key facts and arguments into structured form. Across both, you work with technical specialists to turn legal reasoning into structured inputs, flag inconsistencies in legal materials, and give precise feedback on model outputs.

The word "structured" keeps coming up, so expect to express legal judgment in fields, labels and schemas as well as prose.

Who qualifies

Listed as preferred:

  • A JD from an accredited institution and active bar membership, US or international equivalent
  • At least three years practising in M&A, corporate law, commercial litigation, capital markets or private equity
  • Experience drafting and reviewing transactional documents or litigation materials
  • The ability to explain legal reasoning to technical and non-technical audiences
  • A background in computer science, a technical domain, or earlier AI or data annotation projects is strongly preferred

That last line is the differentiator. A lawyer who has also written code, done legal ops or worked on an annotation project is who this ad is written for. The international bar equivalence also makes it one of the few high-band micro1 legal listings open on paper to non-US qualified lawyers.

What it pays

$140–350/hour. The ceiling is $50 below micro1's BigLaw-titled listings, but there is no firm-tier requirement. No compensation structure or placement basis is published.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • No firm-tier filter, yet a $140 floor
  • Non-US bar admission can qualify
  • Corporate and commercial litigators both fit
  • 100 openings, marked high demand

Less good:

  • A $210-wide band with no stated placement basis
  • Structured annotation work may feel more mechanical than drafting
  • Lawyers without a technical or annotation background are at a stated disadvantage
  • No pay structure, hours or duration published
  • Contractor engagement: no benefits, no notice period, your own tax to manage
