What you'll do
This is video annotation with an engineer's commentary attached. You watch footage of robotic systems and write down what is happening electrically: which events, faults or system functions are visible, what they mean, and how they relate to the schematics and system diagrams you are given. The readers of your notes are machine learning specialists and other engineers, so the writing has to be precise enough for the second group and plain enough for the first.
You also help sharpen the annotation guidelines as the project goes, and work asynchronously with the technical team to settle unclear requirements.
The interesting part for an electronics engineer is inference from video. You will rarely have a scope trace; you will have a schematic and footage, and you need to say what a behaviour on screen implies about the circuit behind it.
Who fits
Everything below is listed as preferred:
- A degree in electronics engineering, electrical engineering or something close
- Real depth in electrical system design, analysis and troubleshooting
- Experience with robotics, automation or mechatronic systems
- Fluency reading electrical schematics and writing up technical observations
- Clear written and spoken communication about complex topics
- Some experience annotating or analysing technical video or images, as a bonus
- Self-directed problem solving in a remote team
What it pays
$50–90/hour, micro1's published band, with no stated basis for where in the range you land. It is lower than micro1's Electrical & Circuit Design Expert ($60–130/hour), which is a harder, senior problem-solving and grading role; this one trades that bar for video review with a robotics slant.
Worth knowing
Good:
- 100 openings and a "High demand" tag
- No AI experience needed
- Engineers from industrial automation, robotics integration and mechatronics maintenance are a natural fit, not just design engineers
- Asynchronous collaboration, so time zone matters less
Less good:
- Diagnosing electrical behaviour from video alone is limited; expect some clips where the honest annotation is "not determinable"
- No years-of-experience bar is stated, so seniority does not obviously lift your rate
- Weekly hours, project length and customer are not published
- Contractor terms, with no benefits
