What you'll do

The project tests AI assistants on the admin side of teaching, not on lesson content. You take realistic tasks an English teacher deals with every week (emailing a parent about a missed essay, scheduling conferences, booking a class trip to a theatre or an author event, coordinating with colleagues) and hand them to an AI assistant under standardised conditions. Then you check what it produced.

Checking means two things. Did it do the task, completely and in the order asked? And is the writing right: grammar, tone for the audience (a parent is not a department head), clarity, and fidelity to the request. You rank and annotate responses against detailed grading guidelines and log the results in the project's tools.

The guidelines are long and literal, and the ad stresses following every step without skipping or reinterpreting. Teachers who have marked to an exam board's mark scheme will recognise the discipline.

Who qualifies

  • Based in the United States
  • An iPhone with iMessage, plus a Facebook and/or Instagram account (the tasks appear to run across real consumer apps)
  • A bachelor's degree in English, literature, creative writing, linguistics, comparative literature, education or a related humanities field
  • Experience teaching English or literature at K-12, college or adult level (language arts, composition, creative writing and ESL all count)
  • Daily, hands-on use of Google Classroom to run classes, alongside Gmail and Google Calendar
  • Solid grammar, literary analysis and writing conventions
  • Practical, regular use of AI tools and comfort checking their output

Preferred: a master's or advanced coursework in the field, prior AI evaluation or data labelling, prompt-writing familiarity, and experience writing rubrics or grading writing.

What it pays

$15–40/hour, micro1's own figure. The floor is low for a degree-holding teacher, and nothing in the ad explains placement within the band, so plan around $15 until you see an offer. No per-task terms, weekly hours or duration are published.

Before you apply

The device and social account requirements mean you will likely be using your own phone and accounts during tasks. Ask how personal data and messages on those accounts are handled, and whether test accounts are provided.

How it compares

micro1's Google Classroom Specialist listing draws on similar teacher admin skills at $30–100/hour. This role is narrower to English and literature, with the language-quality judgment as the specialism, and pays considerably less.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • 50 openings, flagged high demand
  • Classroom admin experience is the qualification, not technical skill
  • Rubric-writing and essay-grading backgrounds are directly useful
  • Remote within the US

Less good:

  • A $15 floor for degree-holding teachers
  • Requires your own iPhone and social media accounts
  • US residents only
  • Detailed, literal guideline-following can feel rigid
  • Contractor engagement: no benefits, your own tax to manage
