  • usability testing
  • interviewing

What you'll do

This is a research-and-feedback engagement rather than a data-production job. Two strands of work are described:

  • Expert interviews. Structured conversations about how sell-side research is actually produced today: the workflow from earnings to note, where time goes, and what the standards of published research demand.
  • Tool testing. Hands-on evaluation of AI tools and platforms built for equity research, with feedback on usability, coverage and the quality of the analysis they produce. You also read generated financial content and judge its accuracy, depth and industry relevance.

Around both, you share views on how AI fits into traditional research processes and write up observations and recommendations that feed into model development. The ad calls it a unique short-term engagement, so expect a defined window rather than ongoing work.

Who fits

  • Current or recent sell-side experience as an Equity Research Analyst or Associate, including publishing research, ratings, price targets, earnings notes or initiations on public companies
  • Hands-on familiarity with AI tools in financial research or analysis
  • Clear written and spoken communication
  • Experience in interviews, panels or feedback sessions on industry tools and practice
  • Analytical rigor and the ability to synthesise information from several sources
  • A background serving institutional clients to published sell-side standards

"Recent, hands-on" is the operative phrase: the ad says it specifically wants people who have produced published research lately, so a long gap since your last note works against you. No prior AI training experience is required.

What it pays

$180–220/hour, micro1's published band. That is a tight range at the top of its board. Because the work is interview-heavy and short-term, total hours are likely to be limited; the ad does not state hours, duration or a compensation mechanism.

This is a different project from micro1's Equity Research Expert listing ($175–300/hour), which is about building earnings, valuation and thesis datasets rather than interviews and tool testing.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • High, narrow pay band
  • Interviews and tool testing take less unpaid ramp-up than dataset production
  • Your view on research workflows is the product, so seniority shows directly
  • Flagged as high demand

Less good:

  • Short-term by design and only 10 openings
  • Requires current or recent publishing experience; buy-side analysts are not named
  • Talking about your workflow while still employed may touch your firm's compliance and confidentiality rules, so check before applying
  • No hours, duration or payment terms published
  • Contractor engagement: no benefits, no notice period, your own tax to manage
