  • summarization

What you'll do

The work is family law practice written down for a model:

  • Analysing family law cases, statutes and precedents to produce accurate legal insight for AI training
  • Researching and writing concise summaries and case notes
  • Drafting, reviewing and annotating family law documents, with custody agreements, divorce decrees and prenuptial agreements named as examples
  • Identifying the key issues, arguments and reasoning in documents and case files
  • Working with a remote team through digital project management tools, and adapting as the project's requirements change

Family law varies more by state than most practice areas (property regimes, custody standards, support guidelines), and the ad does not say which jurisdictions the project covers. Expect that to come up early.

Who qualifies

The distinguishing requirement is in the title and the ad's opening: attorneys currently enrolled in the AAML (American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers). AAML fellowship is a peer-selected credential for experienced matrimonial lawyers, so this is a senior-only listing in practice.

Also preferred:

  • Family law expertise gained at a leading BigLaw firm
  • Research, writing and case analysis in family law
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Reviewing, summarising and critiquing complex documents with close attention to detail
  • Comfort with remote collaboration and project management tools
  • Organisation across multiple deliverables, critical thinking and sound legal judgment

A title mismatch

The card and listing title say "AAML Registered", while the role title inside the description reads "Family Law Attorney (BigLaw Firms)". The two framings point at different pools: few AAML fellows practise at BigLaw firms, which rarely run family law departments. We read AAML enrolment as the operative requirement, since the ad's opening sentence states it directly, but it is worth confirming at screening.

What it pays

$140–400/hour. No compensation structure or placement basis is published.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • A high band for a practice area rarely targeted by AI training work
  • The drafting mirrors real matrimonial practice
  • Marked high demand

Less good:

  • AAML enrolment is a narrow gate
  • The listing contradicts itself on BigLaw versus AAML
  • Only 10 openings
  • No jurisdiction, pay structure, hours or duration published
  • Contractor engagement: no benefits, no notice period, your own tax to manage
