What you'll do

This is a short-term project, and the ad says so. You run through US tax filing and related financial workflows, apply defined rubrics to judge their accuracy, completeness and user experience, and compare what the system produces against real tax documents and scenarios. Findings go back in writing and, where needed, verbally, and you coordinate asynchronously with the project team.

The unusual part is whose documents are used: yours.

Read this before applying: your own accounts and documents

The scope asks contributors to:

  • Connect personal financial accounts through a Plaid login
  • Connect a personal Gmail account and Google Drive
  • Share tax-related documents for the project

The ad states that all downstream use happens after personally identifiable information has been sanitised. It does not say who performs the sanitising, what counts as PII, how long access lasts, how you revoke it, or whether you can use a dedicated account instead of your main one. Those are fair questions to ask before connecting anything. A fresh Gmail and Drive used only for this project, and disconnecting Plaid access when the project ends, are sensible precautions regardless of the answers.

Who fits

  • Currently living in a mainland US state and able to start immediately
  • Hands-on experience filing 2025 US taxes, on your own or with a CPA or tax professional
  • Comfort connecting personal Gmail, Drive and financial accounts for project use
  • Careful, consistent document review and annotation
  • Experience with rubrics or structured evaluation (annotation, RLHF, QA) helps
  • Clear written and verbal communication, and working familiarity with Google Docs, Sheets and Drive

No accounting qualification is asked for. Financial literacy and a real 2025 return are the substance of the requirement, which is why this is a generalist listing.

What it pays

$35–110/hour, micro1's published figure. The band is more than three times from bottom to top, with nothing published about what decides placement; a generalist without a tax background should plan around the floor. No compensation structure, weekly hours or project length beyond "short-term" is stated.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • No credential required, only a real 2025 filing
  • Thirty openings and a high-demand flag
  • Immediate start, which suits anyone who wants work now

Less good:

  • Requires linking your own bank accounts, email and cloud storage; the privacy terms beyond "PII sanitised" are not on the listing
  • Short-term by design, with no duration stated
  • A wide band with no basis for placement
  • Contractor engagement: no benefits, no notice period, your own tax to manage

About this listing

Posted by micro1 on its own jobs portal and read on 24 September 2026. The $35–110/hour band, thirty openings and the account-connection requirements are its own published text. Location is given as remote; mainland US residence appears among the preferred qualifications rather than as a stated location requirement, so the country field is left open, but in practice the work needs a US tax return. Payment terms and schedule are not published on the listing. See micro1.
