Skills

  • document review

  • case management software

What you'll do

The work sits on the document side of immigration practice rather than the client side. You review immigration law documents and legal scenarios for accuracy and compliance, then draft, edit and evaluate the kind of content a BigLaw immigration team produces every week: memos, briefs and case documentation. That material, and your corrections to what an AI model writes, is what trains the system.

Two parts of the scope are less usual. You run legal research with standard databases as part of the task, and you work inside case management software to simulate and assess technology-enabled workflows. In practice that means judging whether an answer is right and also whether it fits how a matter actually moves through a firm's systems.

You also bring what the ad calls insight from BigLaw practice: the judgement about what a partner would flag, what a filing needs, and where a plausible-looking draft would get a client into trouble.

Who fits

  • An active licence to practise law, with demonstrated expertise in US immigration law
  • Significant BigLaw experience handling complex immigration casework and advising clients
  • Strong legal writing and analysis, and fluency with legal research tools
  • Familiarity with case management and document review technology
  • Close attention to detail and the habit of critically testing legal information
  • Clear written and verbal communication, and comfort on multidisciplinary teams

Prior work on legal technology, AI or legal operations projects is a plus. No AI experience is required. The ad does not state a minimum number of years, a jurisdiction of admission, or a residence requirement.

What it pays

$140–400/hour, micro1's published band. That is one of the widest ranges on the board, and nothing on the listing says what places you within it. An immigration partner and a fourth-year associate would both read themselves into the top of that band, so ask where you land before you commit time.

The listing has no compensation-structure section, so whether the figure buys hours or is a per-task equivalent is not stated.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • A high ceiling, and even the floor is strong for contract legal work
  • Immigration is a practice area that rarely gets its own AI training listing; this one is built around it
  • Ten openings, flagged high demand
  • Drafting, research and review are recognisably a lawyer's work
  • No AI background needed

Less good:

  • A $260-wide band with no published placement criteria
  • "BigLaw" is the filter: immigration boutiques and in-house immigration counsel are not named
  • No pay structure, weekly hours, start date or project length stated
  • Contractor engagement: no benefits, no notice period, your own tax to manage
  • The customer and the product being trained are not named

About this listing

Posted by micro1 on its own jobs portal about a month before we read it on 24 September 2026. The $140–400/hour band, the ten openings and the qualifications above are its published text; the listing gives the location as "Remote" with no country named, so eligibility is left open here. The observations about placement in the band are ours. See micro1.
