What you'll do
This is the banker's side of a finance dataset, and it covers both making and marking the work.
On the production side you run company and industry research, buyer and target screens, comparable company analysis and financial modelling, and you build, update and troubleshoot Excel valuation and transaction models. You also prepare and edit presentation material in the style of client decks and pitchbooks, reflecting execution scenarios and strategic rationale.
On the review side you critique sample materials for numerical errors, weak strategy or unclear logic, and give feedback that would actually improve them. You explain accounting treatments, valuation adjustments and deal sensitivities, and trace how a change in one assumption moves the output.
Senior experience matters most in the review half. Spotting the circular reference is easy; the harder task is explaining why the synergy case in a deck does not survive the model behind it.
Who fits
- A former senior associate (third-year preferred) or vice president on an M&A or industry coverage team at a leading bank, an established M&A boutique or a sector-focused advisory firm
- Substantial exposure to live buy-side or sell-side processes, with client-facing deliverables to show for it
- Experience both producing and reviewing analysis and decks to senior banker or client standard
- Mastery of Excel modelling, including troubleshooting and scenario analysis
- Direct experience with research, target screening, comps and pitchbook preparation
- Clear written and verbal communication, with actionable feedback
Analysts and first-year associates are below the stated bar. No prior AI experience is needed.
What it pays
$175–300/hour, micro1's published figure. It shares the band and the twenty-five openings with micro1's Equity Research Expert listing, posted the same day, which suggests one customer building across banking and research. No basis for placement inside the $125 band is given, and no compensation structure, weekly hours or duration.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Top-tier pay for AI training work
- Twenty-five openings, flagged high demand
- Boutique and sector-advisory experience count, not only bulge-bracket
- The task list maps closely to real associate and VP work, so there is little to learn
Less good:
- The seniority bar (senior associate or VP) excludes most analysts
- Wide band, no basis for placement
- No hours, duration or compensation structure published
- Check your employer's policy on outside work if you are still in banking
- Contractor engagement: no benefits, no notice period, your own tax to manage
