What you'll do
You transcribe audio containing both Korean and English, proofread and correct the result, and annotate files with metadata and contextual notes for the AI training pipeline. Work arrives as assignments with timelines and quality benchmarks, and you give feedback on the workflow, the tools and the linguistic problems that come up.
Korean speech that moves between Korean and English is common in business, tech and entertainment audio, and it forces transcription decisions: whether an English loanword goes in Hangul or Latin letters, how to mark spacing (Korean word spacing rules are notoriously inconsistent even among native writers), and how to render casual contractions. Expect a style guide, and expect accuracy against it to be the main quality measure.
Who fits
- Native-level Korean, with strong comprehension of spoken and written language
- Professional audio transcription experience where high accuracy was essential
- Familiarity with industry-standard transcription tools or platforms
- Clear written and spoken communication for raising and documenting ambiguities
- The ability to manage several assignments as requirements change
AI training, data annotation or language resource experience is a plus. No AI experience is required. The audio includes English, so good English comprehension is implied.
What it pays
$20–36/hour, micro1's published band, the same as its French, German, Hindi, Italian and Japanese Language Expert roles posted in the same week.
micro1 also has an older Korean Transcription Expert listing with a word-for-word identical scope of work at $15–28/hour. The one published difference in requirements is that the older listing accepts native or near-native Korean, while this one asks for native-level fluency. If you are a native speaker, this listing pays more at both ends.
Worth knowing
Good:
- The better-paid of micro1's two Korean transcription listings
- 15 openings on a recently posted listing
- No AI experience required
- Remote, with no country restriction on the listing
Less good:
- Native-level Korean required, stricter than the older sibling
- Professional transcription experience expected
- No hours, duration or start date published
- Contractor engagement: no benefits, your own tax to manage
