How this differs from the other Lawyer listing
micro1 runs two listings titled simply "Lawyer". The other one pays $80–180/hour for contract risk review and plain-English explanation, and accepts a lapsed US bar. This one pays less, $60–75/hour, asks for more (an active licence and five years), and adds something the other lacks: regulatory compliance across multiple jurisdictions. It has only five openings against the other's 50. If you qualify for both, the other listing is the better offer on paper; this one is for compliance specialists whose value is in knowing how rules differ from one place to the next.
What you'll do
You review contracts in detail for risks, ambiguities and room for improvement, and research the statutes, regulations and case law behind each project question. You draft, edit and evaluate a range of legal documents for accuracy and clarity.
The compliance strand is where the judgement lies: analysing issues across jurisdictions and advising on how project content should line up with legal standards. Throughout, you write explanations and rationales for legal positions, which become the reasoning the model learns from, and you give feedback on legal data as the training material is revised. Collaboration is asynchronous, by writing and by call.
Who fits
- An active law licence (bar admission) and at least five years of practice in contract law, compliance or a close specialty
- Proven skill in contract review, legal research, regulatory compliance and legal writing
- Strong critical thinking and an eye for legal nuance
- The ability to explain complex legal ideas to lawyers and non-lawyers alike
- Comfort reading laws and regulations from different jurisdictions
- Experience working independently on remote, project-based work
Familiarity with legal technology is a plus, not a requirement. The ad does not name a jurisdiction of admission, and the location is "Remote" with no country named, so non-US lawyers are not excluded on the face of the ad.
What it pays
$60–75/hour, a narrow band. It is among the lower legal rates micro1 currently lists, and the five-year bar is among the higher ones, so the trade here is predictability rather than upside. The ad does not say whether the rate is hourly or a per-task equivalent.
Worth knowing
Good:
- No specific jurisdiction of admission is stated, which may suit lawyers outside the US
- A narrow band leaves little doubt about what you will earn
- Multi-jurisdiction compliance is a specialism this listing values directly
- Asynchronous, independent work
Less good:
- Lower pay for a higher experience bar than the sibling listing
- Only five openings
- No pay mechanism, weekly hours, start date or project length stated
- Contractor engagement: no benefits, no notice period, your own tax to manage
- The customer and the product being trained are not named
