What you'll do
This is the computational end of mechanical engineering, and micro1 says plainly that it is a very coding-heavy role. A typical task takes a set of physical requirements and turns it into something a solver can run: you generate the geometry or mesh, assign materials, loads, contacts and boundary conditions, run the simulation, and then judge whether the result actually satisfies the physical and design constraints. Tasks span structural, thermal, mechanical and multiphysics problems, and you both create them and solve or review them, so the AI model being trained has a verified answer to aim at.
The work is remote, on a contractor basis, at roughly 15 hours a week that you schedule yourself.
Who qualifies
- An MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline, or a strong grasp of applied mechanics and mechanical engineering fundamentals (the ad offers the degree and the understanding as alternatives, despite the title)
- Experience producing analytical, computational or simulation-based engineering solutions
- Practical, everyday use of coding agents in your workflow; this is stated as a requirement, not a preference
- Python, which the listing names as a required skill
- Working English, since the tasks and reviews are written
What it pays
micro1 lists $60–120/hour. Compensation is output-based: each task that meets the project specification is paid, and minimum submission requirements apply. In practice your hourly equivalent depends on how quickly you get a model to converge and a check to pass, which is where engineers who already script their simulations have the edge.
Worth knowing
Good:
- 100 openings, among the largest counts in this family of micro1 expert roles
- The degree is presented as one route in, not the only one
- Global and fully remote with no country restriction stated
- Screening is a short form, a roughly 30-minute AI interview and a hiring manager review
Less good:
- If you run simulations through a GUI and never script them, the coding-agent requirement will be a real barrier
- Per-task pay with unstated minimum submission requirements
- The floor is lower than micro1's existing Mechanical Engineering Expert listing at $80–150/hour, although that one is a separate project
- micro1 expects a first task within 24–48 hours of onboarding
About this listing
We read this ad on micro1's signed-in jobs board on 18 October 2026, three days after it went up. It is one of several "(MSc. or PhD)" expert listings micro1 posted the same week on a similar $60–120 template; this one is the mechanical and multiphysics variant. The customer, project length and payment schedule are not published. See micro1.
