What you'll do
This is the review-heavy member of micro1's current expert family. You work problems in your own discipline, build a rigorous solution (using Python for the calculations or simulations where it helps), and then go through an AI model's answer to the same problem line by line. The job is to catch what a confident model gets wrong: a bad assumption, a dropped constraint, an algebra slip, a result that is mathematically tidy but physically impossible. micro1 still calls it very coding-heavy and expects coding agents in your workflow.
Remote contract work, around 15 hours a week, on your own timetable.
Who qualifies
You need real depth in at least one of these, not breadth across all of them:
- Chemistry
- Biology
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Earth science, geoscience or environmental science
- Robotics
Adjacent quantitative fields may be considered when the expertise maps directly. Beyond the field itself, the ad asks for practical Python or another programming language, strong quantitative problem-solving, and experience with coding agents. NumPy, SciPy, pandas, SymPy and Jupyter are named as typical tools, none mandatory.
Despite "MSc./PhD" in the title, the ad says a specific degree or number of years is not strictly required if you can demonstrate the expertise, whether it comes from research, industry, teaching, engineering or independent work. The card lists biology as the required skill.
What it pays
micro1 publishes $60–120/hour, paid per task that meets the project specification, with minimum submission requirements. That is a step up from micro1's existing STEM Expert listing at $50–100/hour, which is a separate posting.
Worth knowing
Good:
- One of the few listings in this family where the degree in the title is not actually a gate
- Teachers and industry scientists are named explicitly as valid backgrounds
- Six disciplines in scope, so it is worth a look for most quantitative scientists
- Global, fully remote, no country restriction stated
Less good:
- Ten openings only, spread across six fields
- Paid per accepted task, and the minimum submission level is not stated
- Coding agents are expected even though the core skill is scientific judgment
- micro1 asks for a first task within 24–48 hours of onboarding
About this listing
We read this on micro1's signed-in jobs board on 18 October 2026, three days after it was posted. The detail panel heads the ad simply "STEM Expert"; the card and title carry the "(MSc./PhD)" tag. Customer, project length and payment schedule are not published. See micro1.
