  • contract negotiation

What you'll do

The project trains AI to redline software contracts the way an experienced in-house lawyer would. You run simulated negotiations and redlining exercises on SaaS agreements, review how a model responds to the same contract scenarios, and give feedback on how it spots risk and reads contract language.

You also build objective evaluation frameworks and grading criteria for contract tasks, and work with product and research teams on the data and guidelines behind AI contract review. The role is part-time by design.

The agreements named are the everyday SaaS stack: master services agreements, NDAs and data processing agreements. If your week is mostly vendor paper, customer paper and DPA riders, this is close to your day job with the redlines turned into training data.

Who qualifies

Required:

  • A J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school
  • Active bar admission in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
  • At least 3 years of in-house experience focused on technology transactions, particularly negotiating MSAs, NDAs and DPAs
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication with close attention to detail
  • The ability to turn legal judgment into feedback an AI team can act on
  • Interest in law and technology, and experience on cross-disciplinary teams

Preferred:

  • Prior exposure to AI, legal tech or training projects
  • Corporate law firm experience in M&A or private equity fund formation

The in-house requirement is the filter. Law firm tech-transactions experience alone does not meet the stated bar, although firm M&A or fund formation experience is a bonus on top of it.

What it pays

$80–110/hour, micro1's published band. That sits a little below the $90–130 band on micro1's General Counsel listing, which asks for the same three years of in-house MSA, NDA and DPA work but does not require bar admission. This ad publishes no compensation mechanism, weekly hours or project length, so ask in screening whether pay is hourly or per task.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • 50 openings, flagged as high demand
  • Part-time by design, so it can sit alongside an in-house role
  • The work is the contract types you already negotiate
  • Building grading criteria is durable, transferable work

Less good:

  • Hard requirements: ABA J.D., U.S. bar admission and in-house experience
  • Pay is lower than micro1's comparable General Counsel listing
  • No compensation structure, hours or duration published
  • If you are currently in-house, check your employer's outside-work and confidentiality policies
  • Contractor engagement: no benefits, no notice period, your own tax to manage
