What you'll do
This is the US-only, senior version of micro1's accounting work, and the scope is wider than its siblings'. You review, evaluate and annotate financial reports and statements against accounting standards; assess and critique audit procedures, calling out gaps, good practice and regulatory issues across different business scenarios; build and assess financial models; and review tax compliance practice and documentation for risk.
Two strands set it apart. First, legal as well as financial documents are in scope, reviewed for clarity, correctness and regulatory alignment. Second, the ad explicitly asks you to support the building and evaluation of AI training datasets using prior experience with data labelling, annotation or model evaluation, which the other accounting listings do not mention.
Who fits
- Based in the US (the listing's location is "Remote (US Based)")
- A bachelor's degree or higher in accounting, finance, economics or a related field
- In-depth knowledge of economics, accounting, law, government regulation and taxation
- Substantial experience preparing and auditing financial statements
- A solid grasp of cost accounting and budgetary controls
- Holding, or having held, one of: Certified Public Accountant, Cost Accountant, Financial Auditor, General Accountant, Internal Auditor, or Revenue Tax Specialist
- Clear written and verbal communication on technical subjects
Prior human-data experience (labelling, annotation, model evaluation) is described in the scope as something you will draw on. It is not listed as a formal requirement, but applicants who have it should lead with it.
Nice to have
- CPA, CMA, CIA or equivalent practical experience
- Experience advising on or implementing financial systems and controls
What it pays
$60–120/hour. The qualification list is word for word the one on micro1's Accountants and Auditors listing, which pays $40–95 with no location limit; this one pays more and restricts to the US. The band doubles from floor to top with no stated basis for placement. No compensation structure, weekly hours or duration is published.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Thirty openings, posted the day before we read it
- A higher floor ($60) than micro1's other generalist accounting listings
- Broad accepted titles, from general accountant to revenue tax specialist
- Mixed scope (audit, modelling, tax, legal documents) keeps the work varied
Less good:
- US-based contributors only
- A $60-wide band with no basis for placement
- Legal document review may stretch accountants without that background
- No hours, duration or pay structure published
- Contractor engagement: no benefits, no notice period, your own tax to manage
