What you'll do
This listing wants Peninsular Spanish specifically: the ad asks for Spanish as spoken in Spain, not Latin American varieties. Mercor is staffing two Amazon Sonic audit collections:
- Multilingual Transcription Audit: listen to human or agent speech, compare it with the annotator's transcript, tag every applicable error code, give a pass or fail and a short rationale
- Forced Alignment Audit: review word-level segments from an automatic aligner, checking timestamps and the reference text, and adjusting, splitting, merging, adding or removing segments where the machine erred
Spanish is fast and heavily linked in speech: vowels merge across words (synalepha), so "la amiga" or "de España" can sound like one unit, and segment boundaries have to be placed by convention rather than by an audible gap. Aspirated or dropped "s" in southern accents, and "ll" / "y" merging, can make a correct transcript sound wrong, and accents on words like "tú" / "tu" or "más" / "mas" are classic annotator errors.
Both collections run at 5.00 audit hours per task, per the ad, with a written reason for every judgment and a short calibration before production.
Who qualifies
- Native or near-native Spanish as spoken in Spain: born and raised there, or fully fluent with five or more years of residence. A hard requirement.
- Strong English reading and writing for the rulebook, error codes and rationales
- Consistent application of written standards; transcription, subtitling, localisation, annotation or QA experience is a strong signal
- Careful listening for similar sounds and word boundaries
Helpful: AI data or evaluation work, phonetics or linguistics, waveform tools.
No current residence requirement is stated, so this listing is not country-restricted.
What it pays
$39.50 per hour, published by Mercor, level with Italian and just below French and German ($41.50). Japanese pays $37.50, Korean and Portuguese $25, Chinese $21.50, Hindi $18. For US Spanish speakers, Mercor's separate US Spanish audiobook QA listing pays $15–20 for a lighter listening brief.
Weekly payments via Stripe or Wise. H-1B and STEM OPT candidates are excluded.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Near the top of the Sonic audit pay range
- Rule-based review work with clear error codes
- Remote and self-scheduled
Less good:
- Latin American Spanish speakers do not meet the stated requirement
- English rationales on every item
- Hours and duration not stated; contractor terms
