What you'll do

Mercor is recruiting Spanish speakers to evaluate text-to-speech audiobooks in the Spanish of the US and North America, the variety aimed at the large US Hispanic audiobook audience rather than Spain. You listen to synthetic narration and annotate each failure at the exact span, choosing an error category in Mercor's review tool, then rate the listening experience as a whole.

The ad's error list: skipped, added or mispronounced words; numbers read incorrectly; abbreviations expanded wrongly; unnatural phrasing or intonation; audio artefacts. For US Spanish, a good ear also catches English names and brand words that a Spanish voice mangles (or anglicises when it should not), "EE. UU." or "Sr." read out as letters, seseo applied inconsistently, and a Castilian "z" creeping into a voice meant for the Americas.

Who fits

  • Native or near-native Spanish (US / North American Spanish), and a genuine audiobook listener
  • Working English for reports; the ad says bilingual fluency is not needed, though many US Spanish speakers will have it
  • Some annotation, transcription, proofreading, linguistics or similar detail work
  • Sustained accuracy over long listening sessions
  • About 20 hours a week, part-time

Nice to have: AI data or audio QA experience, editing, voice or audio production background.

Mercor prefers applicants living in the United States but does not require it; Mexican and Central American speakers of the same variety are not excluded by the text.

What it pays

$15–20 per hour, published by Mercor. Note that the US English version of the same project pays $20–25, so if you are fully bilingual and a native-level English listener, compare the two before choosing. Mercor's Spanish Sonic audit role (Spain variety) pays $39.50 per hour for transcription auditing.

Weekly payments via Stripe or Wise. H-1B and STEM OPT candidates are excluded.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • No degree or experience minimum
  • A listing aimed at US Spanish specifically, which is less common than Spain or Mexico targeting
  • Flexible, remote, weekly paid

Less good:

  • $5 an hour less than the US English version of the same work
  • Long listening sessions demand focus
  • Contractor terms: no benefits, and the project can end early
  • Client, tool and duration are not described
