What you'll do
Despite the title, you will not cut anything. micro1 says plainly that this is an AI training and video annotation project, not editing or post-production. You review footage of robotic arms completing real-world tasks and annotate it against the customer's grading guidelines, using dedicated annotation tools.
What carries over from the edit suite is how you watch. The core task is deciding when an action begins, changes and ends, which is the same frame-level call you make when trimming a cut. You label actions, object interactions, transitions, outcomes and errors in each segment, and continuity judgment matters: noticing that an object moved between frames, or that a transition is not what it seems.
You also flag unclear footage and visual inconsistencies with brief written notes, review others' annotations when asked, and finish assigned batches on deadline.
Who fits
All listed as preferred:
- A professional or academic background in video editing, post-production, filmmaking, audiovisual production or a related field
- Experience scrutinising footage for timing, continuity, movement and visual consistency
- Familiarity with Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, Avid Media Composer or similar
- The attention span to stay accurate through repetitive frame-level review
- Clear, objective written notes on what you observed
- Video annotation, visual QA, AI training or robotics experience, helpful but not required
The ad says no prior AI, robotics or annotation experience is needed. Location is listed as North America, Latin America, Europe, the UK and Oceania, a region list rather than named countries.
What it pays
$50–90/hour, micro1's published band. Nothing is stated about what places you within it, or about weekly hours and project length.
How it differs from micro1's other Video Editor listing
micro1 also runs a listing simply titled Video Editor, and the two are different jobs. That one is real editing: assembling 3D, CGI and animated video with motion graphics and audio, on a $40–80/hour band with a bachelor's degree required. This one is review work on robot footage, on a $50–90 band, and states no degree requirement.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Editing experience counts directly; no need to retrain as a data specialist
- A $50 floor for review work
- 250 openings and a "High demand" badge
- No degree or AI background asked for
Less good:
- No editing; if you want creative work, the other listing is the one to look at
- Frame-level review of similar footage is repetitive, and the ad says so
- The customer, weekly hours and project length are not published
- Contractor terms, with no benefits
