Skills
  • voice acting
  • voice coaching
  • speech analysis
  • phonetics
  • prosody
  • audio quality evaluation
  • sound engineering

What you'll do

You do not perform here; you listen and describe. Each task is a short speech recording, and you write a structured assessment of it in professional voice terminology, the kind of notes a dialect coach would give a client or a casting director would pass to a sound team.

The ad lists what to cover:

  • The speaker: apparent age and gender, and accent or dialect when you are confident of it
  • The instrument: vocal quality, resonance, phonation type, pitch, intonation, breath support, rhythm and tempo
  • The delivery: emotional tone, energy, articulation and overall style, including whether the sample sounds scripted, spontaneous or conversational
  • The recording: room sound, likely device (studio microphone, headset, phone) and whether it was captured in a studio or at home

Those descriptions become labels that teach speech models to hear the difference between a breathy and a pressed voice, or a phone in a bathroom and a condenser in a booth. Consistency of vocabulary matters, so expect a terminology guide and calibration.

Who fits

  • A professional background in voice acting, voice coaching, dialect coaching, vocal pedagogy or similar
  • Solid grounding in speech analysis, prosody, phonetics, accent variation and vocal quality assessment
  • Audio or sound engineering experience, especially judging recording quality and acoustic environments
  • Familiarity with resonance, placement and breath control as technical concepts
  • Meticulous written communication
  • English at B2 or above; native speakers of any language are welcome
  • Good headphones and a reliable connection

The skill list is long, and few people hold all of it. A voice coach who has spent time in a studio, or an audio engineer who has worked closely with actors, is the profile the ad seems to want.

What it pays

$30–70/hour, micro1's own figure. Nothing published says what decides placement in the band; combined voice and audio-engineering credentials are the likely route to the top. No per-task terms, hours or duration are stated.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • 60 openings, flagged high demand
  • B2 English is enough, and native speakers of other languages are explicitly welcome, which helps for accent identification
  • Uses coaching and engineering ears rather than performance, so no recording setup of your own is needed beyond headphones
  • Flexible, asynchronous work

Less good:

  • Writing detailed technical notes on clip after clip is repetitive
  • A wide skill list that blends two professions
  • No placement criteria within the band
  • No hours, duration or start date published
  • Contractor engagement: no benefits, your own tax to manage
