What you'll do
AfterQuery is looking for Blender users to take on 3D design tasks that resemble real production work: modeling, texturing, rendering, animation and visualization. Work is handed out project by project, and the ad says it runs over the next two to three weeks rather than as an open-ended seat.
On the task list: you create and deliver 3D assets in Blender and other industry-standard tools, document your workflows, scene setups and asset pipelines, and troubleshoot rendering and optimization problems. Collaboration is asynchronous, so expect written handoffs rather than live calls.
The ad does not say what the finished assets are used for. AfterQuery is an expert data lab, so see the company page for how its contractor work generally fits AI training and evaluation.
Who fits
- 1–3 years of professional experience in 3D design, modeling, animation or a related field
- Strong Blender skills plus depth in at least one of: hard surface modeling, organic modeling, texturing and UV mapping, lighting and rendering (Cycles or Eevee), animation, or procedural workflows
- A bachelor's degree in Digital Arts, Animation, Game Design or a related field, or equivalent professional experience or portfolio
- Problem-solving ability and the discipline to work independently on technical and creative tasks
Documenting a scene setup so someone else could reproduce it is part of the job, so tidy habits matter as much as a good render.
What it pays
The ad states project-based pay that starts at an estimated $40/hour and can reach $50/hour. The AfterQuery board headlines $45/hour. The expected commitment is 10–20 hours a week for the projects you accept.
This listing does not publish its payment terms (payout schedule or method). The AfterQuery company page covers how payment generally works.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Asynchronous, remote and flexible around your schedule
- Entry bar is 1–3 years, lower than most expert pools on the board
- Mixed project types across modeling, rendering and animation, useful for a portfolio
Less good:
- Project-based: the ad describes a 2–3 week window, not ongoing work
- The $40–50 figure is an estimate, and the ad says nothing about how it is calculated
- Payment terms and the hiring steps are not described in this ad
About this listing
Read from the AfterQuery Experts board on 18 October 2026. The ad was first posted on 2 February 2026 and is still open. The ad mentions that the work is for an early-stage Y Combinator-backed company. If you apply, AfterQuery's help centre describes an unpaid, one-attempt assessment and ID verification.
