What you'll do

A good share of this role is fixing a machine's work. Alongside transcribing Bengali audio recordings and video from scratch, you review machine-generated transcripts, catch the errors and inconsistencies an automatic system makes, and refine them until they are clear and correct. Anyone who has seen speech recognition handle Bengali conjuncts, code-switching into English, or the gap between Kolkata and Dhaka pronunciation will know there is plenty to correct.

Accents, dialects and linguistic nuance have to come through in the text, and every transcript is labelled and annotated according to project guidelines. Submissions and quality control run on micro1's provided tools. You work with project coordinators to resolve ambiguous cases and to keep to quality benchmarks and milestones.

Who fits

  • Native or near-native Bengali, with an excellent command of spelling, grammar and syntax
  • Background in transcription, translation, linguistics or related language work
  • Familiarity with regional variation and cultural context across Bengali-speaking regions
  • Patience for repetitive work without letting quality slip
  • Clear written and verbal communication, and comfort taking feedback
  • Self-direction in a remote, fully digital setup

These are the ad's preferred qualifications. No AI experience is required.

What it pays

$10–22/hour. That is the same band as micro1's Urdu transcription listing and a little under the $10–24 of its Tamil and Telugu ones. If your English writing is solid, the Bengali Bilingual Expert listing pays $30–65/hour for rating Bengali speech and explaining the ratings in English, and is worth applying to alongside this one. The ad publishes no payment schedule and does not say whether pay is per hour worked or per hour of audio.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • Post-editing machine transcripts can be faster than transcribing from silence once you know the system's habits
  • Translation and general linguistics backgrounds count, not only transcription
  • No AI experience needed
  • Remote, with no country restriction stated

Less good:

  • Only 10 openings
  • Repetitive work by the ad's own description
  • No hours, project length or volume published
  • The customer is not named
  • Contractor engagement: no benefits, your own tax to manage
