What you'll do
You write hard problems from your own working life and solve them. The ad lists trial design, survival analysis, dose response and genetic studies as the territory. Each problem is worked through to a reference answer with the statistical reasoning behind every step, and these are used by frontier AI labs to test model judgment. The third responsibility is the distinctive one: catching methodological mistakes that look reasonable but only a practitioner would spot.
The ad is explicit about who it does not want: clinicians or wet lab scientists without a statistics role.
Who fits
- A Master's or PhD in biostatistics, statistics, epidemiology, statistical genetics or pharmacometrics
- 3+ years full time in a statistical role; internships and school do not count
- Hands-on experience with clinical, epidemiological or genetic data
- Comfortable with R, SAS or Python
- Strong written English and the ability to explain an analysis clearly
- At least 10 hours a week available
Preferred: experience designing trials, running survival or mixed models, building PK/PD models, or analyzing genetic association studies.
What it pays
The board shows $115/hr and the ad text gives no range, so that is the figure. Pay is weekly via Stripe. The ad describes the work as fully async with no fixed hours, a 10 hour weekly minimum and no maximum, scaling up or down week to week, as independent contractor ongoing project work, with no screen recording, keystroke monitoring or idle timers.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Pay is a single clear figure, weekly
- Work is in your own specialty and judged on statistical judgment, not volume
- No monitoring software, no fixed hours
- Ongoing project work
Less good:
- The experience bar is strict: three full years in a statistical role, and school or internships are explicitly excluded
- A 10 hour weekly minimum applies
- The ad does not describe its hiring process; AfterQuery's help centre describes an unpaid one-attempt assessment and ID verification, covered on the company page
