Geospatial Research and Analysis Expert

What you'll do

You are given a geospatial question and asked to explain how you would answer it, not to run the analysis. For each query the ad has you do four things: identify what is ambiguous or missing, propose reasonable assumptions and parameters that turn the question into a solvable problem, lay out a step-by-step workflow (datasets, tools, methods, calculations, validation and decision points), and recommend the outputs that would suit the user, such as maps, spatial datasets, dashboards or reports.

The listing's fee line is "Geospatial Expert QA", so expect the output to be judged for rigour. The reasoning is the product: why this data source, why these assumptions, and how you would check the result.

Who fits

  • A master's degree or PhD in geography, geographic information science, geospatial science, remote sensing, environmental science or a related discipline
  • Advanced geospatial analysis expertise from professional practice, academic research or both
  • Experience as a GIS Analyst, Geospatial Engineer, GIS Data Analyst or similar
  • Strong familiarity with geospatial tools, platforms and frameworks
  • Ability to turn complex reasoning into clear, structured explanations

The ad calls these the ideal profile. It names crisis response and damage assessment, agriculture and environmental monitoring, site selection, market expansion, supply chain analysis and spatial forecasting as especially valuable areas. The ad names no country requirement. It states no language requirement, and the text is in English.

What it pays

$40.00/hour, the single fee Invisible's listing shows for the "Geospatial Expert QA" service. Payment is issued weekly via Stripe or Wise. The listing does not say how many hours a week are available.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • A flat, published rate with weekly payment
  • Work is analysis design and written explanation, a good fit for academics and senior GIS practitioners
  • Fully remote, on your own schedule, and you can accept or reject any project opportunity
  • Wide range of qualifying specialties

Less good:

  • Onboarding is two steps: uploading a resume (about 5 minutes), then an unpaid qualification step Meridial estimates at about 30 minutes
  • No minimum amount of work is guaranteed; projects can be extended, shortened or ended early, including over deliverable quality
  • Independent contractor basis only, with no expectation of continued engagement
  • Invisible cannot support H-1B or STEM OPT contractors at this time
  • Hours, project length and the client are not published
