What you'll do

You analyse insurance policies for a living, and here you check whether coverage conclusions hold up. The ad lists policy language review, coverage determinations, policy comparisons, gap assessments, form and endorsement interpretation, and compliance with filing and regulatory requirements across several lines of business. A central task is evaluating whether policy interpretations are accurate, well supported and consistent with industry standards, then documenting your reasoning clearly and reproducibly.

Work is assigned project by project and runs asynchronously. The ad says the current work spans the next 2 to 3 weeks, at an expected 10 to 20 hours a week on the projects you accept.

Who fits

  • 1 to 3 years as a policy analyst, coverage analyst, policy services specialist, compliance analyst or similar, in a full-time or equivalent role
  • Working knowledge of policy structure: declarations, insuring agreements, conditions, exclusions and endorsements
  • Able to interpret policy language independently and support coverage conclusions with clear reasoning
  • Grounding in forms, filings, rating factors, limits, deductibles and regulation
  • A bachelor's degree or higher in Risk Management, Insurance, Finance, Business or a related field, or equivalent practical experience

Preferred: experience across property and casualty, commercial, life, health or specialty lines; designations such as CPCU, AINS, API or ARM, or progress toward them; familiarity with ISO forms, state filings or NAIC model laws; and exposure to tools such as Guidewire, Duck Creek or Applied Epic. The application form has an optional field for an insurance producer licence (life, health, P&C).

What it pays

The board shows $75/hr and the ad gives no other range. The ad calls the pay competitive and does not publish payment terms; see the company page for how AfterQuery pays.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • Fully remote, part-time and built to fit around a current job
  • Early-career friendly: the bar is 1 to 3 years
  • Work is close to what policy analysts already do

Less good:

  • Short, project-based engagement of 2 to 3 weeks with no stated continuation
  • 10 to 20 hours a week is a real commitment alongside a day job
  • The ad does not describe the hiring process
