What you'll do
The ad leads with the caveat: there is no immediate project. This is a talent network. Mercor is collecting experienced management consultants so it can contact them when AI research clients launch projects that test how well AI systems do real consulting work.
If and when a project starts, the work described is evaluation and rubric design:
- Writing precise, task-specific grading criteria for consulting deliverables: market analyses, strategy recommendations, financial models, client-ready decks and implementation roadmaps
- Scoring AI-generated or human-created work against those criteria
- Writing detailed justifications for each evaluation and score
- Keeping judgment consistent and evidence-based so assessments are reproducible and defensible
- Taking feedback from senior reviewers and revising
Anyone who has sat through a partner review will recognize the skill: stating clearly why a deck's "so what" does not follow from its exhibits, in a way another reviewer would agree with.
Who fits
- 1+ years of professional management consulting
- Experience at a leading strategy firm such as McKinsey, Bain, BCG or equivalent
- Strong structured problem-solving, market sizing, financial modeling, business-case development and executive presentation skills
- Exceptional written communication
- A careful, consistent approach to evaluating complex work
- Comfort calibrating your judgment against set standards
The one-year bar is notably low for this pay band. It makes the network a plausible fit for former business analysts and associates who left a top firm early.
What it pays
$100–150 per hour, Mercor's published band, the same range as Mercor's live Management Consulting Expert listing. Payments are weekly on Stripe or Wise once there is work to pay for.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Only one year of consulting experience required
- A strong rate if a project materializes
- No residence restriction published
- Remote and on your own schedule
Less good:
- No project exists yet; joining guarantees no work or income
- No timeline for when projects might start
- MBB or equivalent pedigree is expected
- H-1B and STEM OPT holders are excluded
- Independent contractor: projects can be extended, shortened or ended early
If you want paid work now rather than a place in a queue, the live listing above is the better first application.
