What you'll do
You do deal-style analysis as short projects. The ad lists detailed financial models, corporate valuations (DCF, LBO, APV), accounting questions applied to real scenarios (NOLs, deferred tax assets, operating leases) and general investment banking and private equity analysis. Your outputs are used to train and test AI models.
Projects run over the next 2 to 3 weeks, asynchronously, and are assigned one at a time. The ad expects 10 to 20 hours a week for the projects you accept.
Who fits
- 1 to 3 years of experience in investment banking or private equity
- A working understanding of financial modelling and accounting
The ad pitches this partly to people preparing for top finance internships, full-time jobs and on-cycle recruiting, as a way to keep modelling skills sharp. A FINRA Series licence is requested on the application form but marked optional.
What it pays
Two figures appear, so check both. The board headlines $150/hour. The ad text itself says project-based pay "starts at est. $60/hour and can go up to $100/hour", and we list that range because it is what the ad states. Treat the $150 headline as the top of the board's own presentation and the $60 to $100 band as the figure to plan around. The ad does not publish its payment terms; the AfterQuery page covers the weekly Stripe payout cycle.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Real modelling and valuation work, aimed at people early in their careers
- Open to people with only 1 to 3 years of experience
- Flexible hours, remote, with the stated 10 to 20 hours a week
Less good:
- The headline and the in-text figure disagree, and the pay is project-based, so ask what a given project pays before accepting
- Work comes in 2 to 3 week bursts, not as a steady job
- The ad does not describe the hiring process; AfterQuery's help centre describes an unpaid, one-attempt assessment and ID verification
