What you'll do

Gujarati has one of the most widely spread diasporas of any Indian language, with large communities in the UK, the US, Canada and East Africa alongside Gujarat itself. Mercor publishes no residence requirement for this listing, so a native Gujarati speaker in Leicester or Nairobi is as eligible as one in Ahmedabad, subject to the visa note below.

The tasks, per the ad, are red-team work on conversational AI:

  • Probe models and agents with jailbreaks, prompt injections, misuse cases, bias exploitation and multi-turn manipulation
  • Annotate failures, classify vulnerabilities and flag systemic risks
  • Follow taxonomies, benchmarks and playbooks
  • Produce reproducible reports, datasets and attack cases

For this Indian-language variant Mercor describes the ideal person as a careful evaluator rather than an experienced red-teamer: you can judge whether an AI answer is accurate, complete and appropriate, you notice subtle errors, you apply guidelines consistently, and you can explain your call. Diaspora speakers bring something extra here: they know how Gujarati is actually mixed with English in everyday messages, a common place for model safeguards to slip.

All work is text. Sensitive topics (bias, misinformation, harmful behaviour) are part of it; you are told the topics before exposure, and higher-sensitivity projects are optional with guidelines and wellness resources.

Who fits

  • Native fluency in Gujarati and English
  • Strong judgment on AI answer quality, clearly explained
  • Rigour with detail and consistency with guidelines
  • Clear written communication
  • Comfort across task types and clients

Nice to have: adversarial ML, cybersecurity, harassment and disinformation analysis, psychology, acting or writing. No degree or minimum years are stated.

What it pays

$16–22 per hour, Mercor's published figure, in line with the other Indian-language variants and Urdu. For UK or US-based applicants that is a modest rate; weigh it against the flexibility. Weekly payment via Stripe or Wise is stated in the ad.

Mercor cannot support H-1B or STEM OPT candidates.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • 56 hires this month, so the listing is active
  • No residence requirement published, which suits the global Gujarati community
  • Evaluation-led profile; security experience is a plus rather than a requirement
  • Weekly payouts; sensitive projects are opt-in

Less good:

  • Lowest pay band in this family, and low for applicants in high-cost countries
  • H-1B and STEM OPT holders excluded
  • Adversarial content can be distressing
  • No weekly hours stated; projects can end early
  • Contractor terms, clients unnamed
