What you'll do

Unreal Engine has spread well beyond games into virtual production and architectural visualisation. Mercor's listing names all three audiences: game developers, technical artists, and virtual production and archviz specialists working in real-time 3D.

The ad describes the setup, not the job. Unreal Engine must be installed on your own Windows PC and ready today, and your display must support high-resolution screen captures. No tasks, client or schedule are given. The format is consistent with recording real editor workflows (level building, material and Blueprint graphs, lighting, Sequencer) to train AI agents that operate complex creative tools; that is our inference.

Unreal is heavy software. A PC that can open the editor comfortably with a real project loaded is implied, even though the ad only sets rules for the screen.

Who fits

  • Unreal Engine installed on your own Windows PC; Mercor provides no licence, VM or hardware
  • Hands-on experience in the Unreal editor from games, virtual production or visualisation work
  • Screenshots above 2.5 megapixels: a single monitor at 1440p-class or higher (or a comparable 16:10, 3:2 or ultrawide panel) or two 1080p-plus monitors spanned into one image

No degree, portfolio, years or country requirement is stated.

What it pays

$30–40 per hour, the Generalist band for the creative listings (Blender, Photoshop, Premiere and others share it). Given that Unreal work often involves C++ and Blueprint scripting, it is notable that this sits $25 below the "Code" tier; if you are equally at home in Android Studio or other developer tools, the Code listings pay more.

Payments are weekly on Stripe or Wise, based on services rendered.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • Free engine download, so no licence spend
  • Marked as a new opportunity when we read it
  • Remote and self-scheduled, weekly pay published

Less good:

  • Lowest pay tier despite a technically demanding tool
  • Needs a capable PC as well as a high-resolution display
  • No hires shown yet, so work volume is unknown
  • Tasks, hours and duration are not described; projects can be extended, shortened or ended early
  • H-1B and STEM OPT candidates excluded; contractor terms

About this listing

A Mercor remote hourly contract, read on 24 September 2026. Rate, platform, screen requirement, payment terms and visa limitation come from the ad. Mercor states no confidential or proprietary information from any employer or client is involved, so studio projects stay closed. See Mercor.
