What you'll do

Brazil has one of the fastest-growing audiobook markets in Latin America, and this Mercor project is about making AI narration in Brazilian Portuguese good enough for it. You listen to synthetic narration of full books and annotate each failure: the exact span, and which kind of error it is.

The error categories in the ad are skipped, added or mispronounced words, numbers read incorrectly, abbreviations expanded wrongly, unnatural phrasing or intonation, and audio glitches. In Brazilian Portuguese the telling slips are often subtle: palatalised "t" and "d" handled inconsistently, nasal vowels flattened, "R$ 1.500,00" read as a raw string, or "Sr." and "Dra." expanded wrongly. After the detail work you rate how satisfying the book was to listen to overall.

Who fits

  • Native or near-native Brazilian Portuguese, and someone who listens to audiobooks regularly
  • Working English for reporting; the ad says you need not be bilingual
  • Some annotation, transcription, proofreading, linguistics or similar detail-review experience
  • The patience to stay accurate through long sessions
  • About 20 hours a week of part-time availability

Helpful but optional: AI data, model evaluation or audio QA projects, and editing, voice or audio production background.

Mercor prefers applicants living in Brazil. It is a preference, so the listing carries no country restriction.

What it pays

$15–20 per hour, Mercor's published figure. The European Portuguese version pays the same; so do the Italian, German, French and Dutch versions. Paid in US dollars, which for Brazil-based contractors is a meaningful plus against local freelance rates.

Weekly payments via Stripe or Wise. H-1B and STEM OPT candidates are excluded.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • USD pay competes well with typical Brazilian freelance review work
  • No degree or experience minimum
  • Flexible hours around a 20-hour target
  • Payment terms published in the ad

Less good:

  • Check Stripe or Wise payout costs and exchange rates before relying on the income
  • Long listening sessions demand real concentration
  • Independent contractor: the project can be extended, shortened or ended early
  • Client and project length are not disclosed
