What you'll do
This is safety testing in Thai, done by people who know how Thai speakers actually talk. The ad describes three tasks:
- Writing expert-level prompts in Thai across a range of sensitive subject areas
- Classifying prompts and conversations against structured guidelines
- Flagging adversarial phrasings and escalation patterns, with a written explanation of each judgment
Thai has features that make this genuinely hard for a model trained mostly on English: politeness particles and register shifts that change the tone of a request, slang and online shorthand, and indirect ways of asking for something that a keyword filter would miss. Your job is to use that knowledge on purpose, writing the kinds of requests a model should catch and noting where it does not.
Expect to handle uncomfortable material. The ad does not list the sensitive topics, but safety work by definition means writing and reading the requests a model is supposed to be careful with. Mercor trains you on the workflow; no AI experience is needed.
Who fits
- Native or near-native Thai, plus business-level written English
- A bachelor's degree, completed or in progress
- Strong written reasoning and attention to detail
- Sound judgment around sensitive and dual-use information
Useful extras: experience reviewing, grading or red-teaming written or technical content, or a background in trust and safety, content moderation, policy evaluation or adversarial testing. Because a degree in progress counts, this is one of the few listings in the series open to current Thai university students.
Thailand or the wider Southeast Asia region is preferred; applicants elsewhere are explicitly welcome.
What it pays
$18–22 per hour, Mercor's published figure and the lowest rate in this AI safety series. The European and East Asian generalist versions pay $38–62, and the Thai STEM (PhD) version pays $24–28.
Locally the picture is different. For someone living in Thailand, a remote hourly rate in this range, on your own schedule, sits well above typical part-time student or entry-level pay; for someone abroad it will look thin.
Payments are weekly via Stripe or Wise, based on services rendered.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Entry-level bar: students with a degree in progress qualify
- No AI background needed, training provided
- Fully remote and self-scheduled, with an immediate start
- 6 hires this month when we checked
Less good:
- The lowest pay in the series for work that is structurally the same as the higher-paid language versions
- Sensitive content is the whole point, and the topics are not named
- No stated weekly hours or project length; projects can be extended, shortened or ended early
- Independent contractor, no benefits
- H-1B and STEM OPT candidates excluded
