What you'll do

This is mainly a data-sharing program. An AI research organization, unnamed in the ad, wants the real conversation histories of heavy ChatGPT users in South Korea to support model research and evaluation.

It runs in two phases:

• Phase one is a one-time deliverable. You sign a consent form giving the research organization access to your personal ChatGPT history, link or share that history following their instructions, give the email address on your ChatGPT account, and self-verify that the account meets the criteria below.
• Phase two is ongoing project work on the same program, offered to some people who complete phase one. The ad describes phase two as separate from the data sharing and does not say what the work involves.

Inside the Mercor application there is a required step called the ChatGPT Power User Interest Form. Applications without it are not considered, so answer every question before you submit.

Who qualifies

All of these, per the ad:

• Based in South Korea, a native Korean speaker, and resident and educated there for at least 3–5 years
• ChatGPT conversations mainly in Korean
• 40+ conversations over the past nine months
• At least one saved memory on the account
• A personal account more than 3 months old

Work, employer and enterprise accounts do not count, and neither does any account holding proprietary or confidential material. The research organization confirms eligibility after you sign the consent form, which can take up to two weeks.

What it pays

$50 per hour is Mercor's published rate. The ad does not say how phase one, a one-time deliverable, converts to that hourly figure, so check what you will actually be paid for the data-sharing step before you consent. Payments are weekly on Stripe or Wise.

Think before you share

Read the consent form properly. People use ChatGPT for health questions, money, relationships and work drafts, and all of that is in the history you would be handing over. Before linking anything, scroll back through your account and decide whether you are comfortable with a third party reading it. If you have ever pasted material from your job into your personal account, that is exactly the proprietary content the program excludes.

Worth knowing

Good:

• No degree, résumé depth or assessment needed; your usage history is the qualification
• The path into phase two, if offered, is ongoing work on the same program

Less good:

• You are giving away your own chat history, and the ad does not say how it is stored or for how long
• The research organization is not named
• The phase one payment amount is not stated in plain terms
• Up to two weeks of verification before you know if you qualify
• H-1B and STEM OPT holders are excluded; independent contractor terms, and projects can end early
