What you'll do
Record about four hours of German scripts (conversational, narrative, instructional) for a Mercor client described as a leading AI research lab, with alternate takes where they want a different tone. The client uses the recordings to clone your voice for its internal "CX AI Agent". A second session of similar length may follow; the ad does not guarantee it.
This is the Germany-based slot for Standard German. Mercor runs a separate Swiss German listing for the same project, restricted to Switzerland, which pays more at the top. Here the requirement is simply native German and residence in Germany; the ad does not ask for a particular regional accent or say whether one is unwelcome, but a customer agent generally calls for clear Hochdeutsch.
Who fits
- Native German speaker, currently living in Germany
- A clear, expressive voice; acting, narration or broadcast experience helps but is optional
- A near-professional home setup: quality microphone, pop filter, quiet room
- Command of intonation, diction and emotional range while keeping to the script
- About four hours for one session, possibly more later
Preferred: TTS, audiobook, IVR or AI voice dataset work, audio editing in Audacity, Adobe Audition or Reaper, and range across conversational, corporate, energetic and calm reads.
Germany has a large professional Sprecher market for dubbing, audiobooks and telephone systems. If you already work in it, check whether your agency or union agreements say anything about AI voice cloning before applying.
What it pays
$50–100 per hour in US dollars, roughly $200 to $400 for the stated session, paid weekly via Stripe or Wise. The Swiss German variant tops out at $150. Payments in USD mean exchange costs, and as an independent contractor you handle your own tax on the income.
What you are licensing
Permission to clone your voice. The ad's safeguard is a usage limit: recordings serve only the client's internal CX AI agent and will not be sold, licensed or reused for any other product, dataset or purpose. It does not name the client, set a term for the licence, explain how to withdraw consent, or mention payment for ongoing use. Under GDPR a voice recording is personal data, so you are entitled to ask how it will be stored and processed; the ad does not cover this.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Only native German and German residence are required, no specific accent
- Newcomers with a good voice and setup can apply
- Short, defined engagement
- Written limit on reuse of the recordings
- Weekly Stripe or Wise payment
Less good:
- Your voice may be cloned, with no payment mentioned for continued use
- The ad says little about how the voice will be used: no client, no duration, no withdrawal right
- Lower ceiling ($100) than the Swiss German variant ($150)
- About $200–400 per session, no guarantee of a second
- Paid in USD, with conversion costs
- Independent contractor; projects can be extended, shortened or ended early
- H-1B and STEM OPT holders are excluded
