What you'll do

A Mercor client, named only as a leading AI research lab, wants a Northern English woman's voice for its internal "CX AI Agent". You record roughly four hours of scripts (conversational, narrative, instructional), give alternate takes when asked, and the client uses the audio to build a synthetic version of your voice. A second session of similar length is possible but not promised.

This is the narrowest brief in Mercor's CX voice cloning family: it is restricted by gender, by region and by accent at once. The ad lists Yorkshire, Manchester, Newcastle and Liverpool as examples, which are four quite different accents, and it does not say whether the client prefers one of them. If yours is on the lighter end, say so plainly in your application rather than leaving the reviewer to guess.

Who fits

  • Female voice actor with a natural, authentic Northern English accent
  • Currently based in the northern UK
  • A clear, expressive voice; experience in acting, narration or broadcasting is welcome but optional
  • A near-professional recording space: decent microphone, pop filter, quiet room
  • Good control of intonation, diction and emotional range while staying on script
  • Availability for one session of around four hours, and maybe a second later

Preferred: earlier TTS, audiobook, IVR or AI voice dataset work, audio editing in Audacity, Adobe Audition or Reaper, and range across conversational, corporate, energetic and calm reads.

Local radio, regional theatre and phone-line voice work are all good preparation here; a customer agent needs warmth and clarity more than drama.

What it pays

$50–100 per hour, paid in US dollars, weekly via Stripe or Wise. The session length points to roughly $200 to $400. Budget for currency conversion when the payout lands in sterling. The neutral UK English variant of the same project pays the same band.

What you are licensing

The right to clone your voice. The ad asks you to apply only if you are comfortable with that, and it offers one firm limit: the recordings will be used only for the client's internal CX AI agent and not sold, licensed or reused for any other product, dataset or purpose. Nothing in the ad covers how long the clone may be used, whether you can withdraw consent, whether you are paid for its continued use, or who the client is. A regional voice is more recognisable than a neutral one, so those gaps matter more here. Ask for the terms before recording.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • A regional accent is wanted, not smoothed away
  • Newcomers with a good voice and setup can apply
  • Short, fixed commitment
  • Written limit on how the recordings may be used
  • Weekly payment via Stripe or Wise

Less good:

  • Your voice may be cloned, with no payment mentioned for ongoing use after the session
  • The ad says little about how the voice will be used: no client name, no time limit, no withdrawal right
  • Restricted to women in the northern UK
  • Roughly $200–400 per session, and a second session is not guaranteed
  • Paid in USD, so exchange costs apply
  • Independent contractor; projects can be extended, shortened or ended early
  • H-1B and STEM OPT holders are excluded (as the ad states)
